Fieldfares and Redwings

We have definitely had more snow than in our previous years in Suffolk. And, to our delight, the snow brought a huge mixed flock of Fieldfares (a garden first for us) and Redwings (just a few). All these photos were taken through the window of our home. Sadly the light quality was very poor when I photographed the Redwing, two photos below.

Seeing these wonderful birds so close at hand made me wonder whether there will be an influx, or even an irruption, of Waxwings. However, the Waxwing Twitter account, @WaxwingsUK , suggests to me that this is probably unlikely.

Hi Caroline, fieldfares are such handsome birds! Lovely to see them in good numbers! We've hardly seen any fieldfares in Edinburgh this year though plenty of redwings. No waxwings at all this winter, and by now we'd usually have seen a few in our very local area.

How lovely to have these birds from your house, as we are not allowed to travel have missed seeing Fieldfare this year but very lucky we do get a few Redwing at the park each year, a smaller flock than normal and I am afraid struggling to feed some days due to the amount of people in the park.
