Lepidoptera ~ Swallowtail (caterpillars) in Norfolk

These photos date to 18 August. We visited Hickling Broad, and thought we might be too late for Swallowtail caterpillars ... but our vigilance was rewarded!

You can read more about the Swallowtail here.

An early instar, which is why it was tiny and looked so different to the others.

We have so few butterflies because of the drought. In fact a monarch and a swallowtail is all I have seen this far. I really enjoy seeing the first stages as a worm. It is a pretty thing.

Fabulous Caroline; they look like they're made of the softest shortest piled silk velvet.

I would like your permission to use one of your swallowtail pics on my FB page as I've got 14 right now on my fennel. First time to grow fennel and love the caterpillars loving it, too. Thanks in advance for your considerations. Judy Wells Read
