Beautiful Birds (25): Thrush - Mistle or Song?

I wonder if other people have difficulty in distinguishing between the Song thrush and the Mistle thrush! I see that the Song Thrush is now on the RSPB Red Conservation list.

These thrushes were enjoying the worms at Aberglasney.

I think those are Song Thrushes. I noticed quite a few as I walked home at dusk this evening, so they seem to be doing quite well round here. I also saw a Mistle Thrush nesting on Blackpill golf course a couple of weeks back, which has now fledged young successfully.

Those definitely look like song thrushes, though its easier to tell the difference in real life. I rarely see mistle thrushes and when i did see one recently, it was so obviously bigger and greyer that i was actually quite surprised by how distinctly different it looked from the song thrush. We're lucky in Edinburgh to have goo numbers of song thrushes along the Water of Leith, their singing is a constant delight at this time of the year.
