New Year greetings... and today's (grey) visitors

Belated wishes for a happy new year!

I saw two Grey Squirrels in the garden today: while this one had knocked his food off the Silver Birch branch and was gorging away at ground level, the other was scampering up the bark, only to find an empty tree.

The Grey Heron has become a fairly regular visitor in, or usually above, our local patch. I love watching the touchdown as those ungainly wings come in to land.

Happy New Year Wishes to you too!

Lovely photographs, I do enjoy watching squirrels - they can be quite fascinating.

Enjoy the rest of January.

All the best Jan

Happy New Year Caroline. Delightful photos. (I used to confuse herons with storks.)

Looking for goldfish ponds!

There's a very fat squirrel who lives on my driveway that I'm sometimes able to photograph.

Seems to be a time for Herons - I've seen one in the field above the workshop a few times recently, and yesterday one flew through the village, quite low. An unusual sight! Wish I'd had my camera. Love your picture of one on the roof.

The shot of the Grey Heron on the roof with the lichen (at least I think it's lichen) is terrific. Herons are always interesting birds to see, especially as they drop out of the sky.
