This was my earliest (Suffolk) garden sighting of a Bee-fly. I think it is a female as it looks as though there is a gap between the eyes. It seems to be Bombylius Major, the Dark-edged Bee-fly.

Agree it's that species Caroline-by far the commonest & the only Bombylius sp I ever seem to see! Don't know why I don't seem to see B. discolor as that should be around? The other 2 just don't occur here in the south-east. You managed a great photo of this.

ReplyDeleteBee flies are such interesting insects. We don't seem to see many up here in Scotland.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to get a photo - usually when I see them they are never still and I have many blurred photos! re: The Living Mountain - it is the first Nan Shepherd I have read. Not really participating as such in the reading group (I get a bit "shy" over things like that!) but am retweeting and reading some of Robert McF's tweets and some of the responses.
